Announcing Kayenta, the best-in-class automated canarying platform from Netflix and Google

Today, Netflix and Google announced Kayenta, the open-source project that codifies 5+ years of learnings from Netflix & Google on how to effectively canary deployments in global, high traffic environments. Kayenta works seamlessly with Spinnaker, which powers the Core of Armory's platform.

Armory has been involved in Kayenta for the past few months. We contributed to the OSS Kayenta integration with Datadog, enabling Datadog users to leverage Kayenta.

Here's a demo: In this demo, we show the Kayenta UI and how it works with Spinnaker to enable automated canaries:

Armory will be deprecating Barometer, our original automated canary service, and moving customers over to Kayenta. We are working with Kayenta in two ways:

1) Armory Platform: We are using Kayenta to provide a deep level of continual analysis, which will inform automated rollbacks in Armory's Platform. This level of automation and intelligence helps companies achive Stage 5, "Intelligent Deployments" faster.

2) More APM Integrations: Armory is looking for companies that want to use Kayenta with integrations beyond Datadog. We will prioritize the following providers based on customer demand:

  • New Relic
  • Sensu
  • SignalFX
  • Splunk
  • SumoLogic
  • InfluxDB
  • Wavefront
  • Panopta
  • Circonus

If you'd like to use Kayenta with a provider other than Datadog, please contact us to discuss one of the above integrations.
